Renegade Doula

birth reflections

Laudy

I met Debra by chance one night at dinner, I was very early in my pregnancy. Having had a traumatic hospital birth, followed by a planned caesarean, I was very intrigued and curious to learn more about homebirthing. The more I spoke to Debra and the more I learnt for myself, I felt very confident. I decided to engage Debra, along with a midwife for my third birth. Debra was very supportive, available and present during my pregnancy. As I neared the end of my pregnancy, I was feeling more and more excited for my impending birth. Just after midnight, on new years eve, I contacted Debra to let her know baby was coming. Debra arrived, I’m the early hours of new years day to support me. Debra helped me stay focused, calm and present. I can honestly say she changed the course of my birth story, and helped me achieve my redemption birth that I so desired. It couldn’t have gone smoother. Thank you is not enough. If you’re thinking of engaging Debra, don’t hesitate.

I don’t know what I would have done without Debra. After wanting to give birth as naturally as I could, I was kicked out of the hospital for refusing to get induced. I gave Debra a call. She helped me remain calm and said she’d meet me at my house to get me back into a safe place and transition to active labor. Debra helped prepare an after-birth plan with my husband, and she guided me to stay as calm as possible and breathe correctly. A few hours later, on my toilet, I felt the ring of fire, and Debra caught my baby as I stood up. I felt so comfortable with Debra, and I knew I was in great hands. Debra is full of knowledge and experience as a doula.

I can’t recommend Debra enough! You get GENUINE. You get KNOWLEDGE. You get TRUST. You get HONESTY. You get CONTROL. You get SUPPORT. You get LOYALTY. You get CONFIDENCE. You get CALM. You get a FRIEND. I know this because this is what I got. I thank you Debra for my beautiful birthing experience.

I had such an incredible birth experience. In the midst of Covid and lockdown I took the decision to birth at home. Deb made me feel at ease from our very first consultation, even though I was a little uneasy with the fact I was well into my 3rd trimester. The day of my birth, Deb made it over fast and absolutely made me feel empowered to be confident and to listen to my body. That is exactly what I ended up doing! I caught my own baby…. just wow an experience like no other. I’m super excited to have the full experience again and Deb will be my doula for my 4th baby due in Nov 2024.

I had the privilege of having the amazing Deb as my doula! This was my fourth pregnancy and this birthing experience this time round was by far the most empowering! Ive always wanted to birth at home. I had all the equipment, a birth plan and willpower to have a free birth. But one thing was not going to plan and that was my infected wisdom tooth. During a time when we were in full lockdown due to COVID, I had lost my mucus plug and had an infected wisdom tooth, I had called the hospital to see if they could take me in as the pain from my tooth was excruciating and wanted some support. They told me due to restrictions I couldn’t come to the hospital nor could I have my husband there with me. So I made one phone call and it was to Deb and told her, I’m having this baby at home and she was over in a heart beat. Deb came over around 10pm with her homeopathy kit to provide support for me during contractions and also breathing techniques to breathe through the tooth pain.

Initially, I was afraid of free birthing but the way Deb held me and my family through it all was nothing short of amazing. I had a c section for my previous baby and I was admant we could do a home VBAC. Deb was able to educate me on the birth process so I felt well prepared. Same with my husband and family and what to expect when the time comes for baby to come. I was not scared, just curious and still in pain with my tooth lol I also gained the trust my body needed to birth my baby and that’s exactly what happened. I felt 100% supported through each contraction as she stood next to my husband to show him how to support me. Her knowledge, education and kindness will always be the pillar of strength during this birthing experience.
